Underpinning it’s decade long reputation as a leading seedstock outlet, the annual Santa Central Sale, Clifton witnessed a record ‘S’ bull average and the highest for the breed in 2015 of $11,582.
Classified bulls hit a $67,500 high on two occasions on their way to setting a phenomenal record average in a sale that featured a two state buying panel, overseas bidding along with a large and strong commercial supporter base of prominent end user clients. Balancing these impressive figures was affordability. Twenty nine percent of the male offering sold for sums of $5000 or less.
In a further analysis of the offering 94 bulls averaged $11,324, seven heifers averaged $5428 to top at $7000 while purebred males made to $4500 culminating in a 98 percent clearance at auction. Leading off the sale were 28 led bulls from the highly successful 2015 RNA show team that set a phenomenal average of $19,821.
Phillip Kirkby’s, Wave Hill Stud, Narrabri, NSW set the benchmark for proceedings topping the sale with two entries fetching $67,500. The first was the 1011kg, 137EMA, 28-month-old, RNA champion, Wave Hill Jager (PS) (Warenda Charlton (PS)) selling to Rob Nioa Stud, Allora. Losing bidders on Jager were Tom and Anna Dunlop, Munnabah Stud, NSW. Moments latter, the Hatton family, Diamond H Stud, Chinchilla outlaid the same figure for the 881kg, 21-month, 142EMA, Wave Hill Jackal (PS). In the process of acquiring Jackal, Diamond H outlasted under bidders, Scott and Rebecca Dunlop, Dunlop Stud, Proston. Wave Hill finished with an ‘S’ average of $18,410 for their 11 bulls including the $18,000 Jazz (PS) (887kg) (29-months) selling to Robert Vincent, Calonbah Stud, Tottenham, NSW. Wave Hill invested in two new sire recruits for $15,000 each, the 29-month, Goolagong Jasper (ET) (AI) (P) (Yarrawonga Youtube) offered by Heath Tiller’s, Goolagong prefix, South Australia and the 26-month-old, Munnabah 944 (P) (Yulgilbar Drover).
Setting a $12,715 average for their 14 classified males were sale instigators, Scott and Wendy Ferguson, Glenn Oaks Stud, Nobby. This result included the $47,500 Jackabite (P) (27-months) (1016kg), the $33,000 King Pin (P) (18-months) (710kg) and the $24,000 Jay Walk (P) selling to the Santa Hat, Munnabah and Waco studs respectively.
Moreton and Frances Rolfe, Hardigreen Park Stud, Wallabadah, NSW enjoyed a $16,227 medium for their 11 ‘S’ bulls. Heading the result was the $35,000, 1056kg, Ringer (PS) (Dangarfield Torrent (PS)) selling to Neil and Rosalie Watson, Watasanta Stud, Tamworth. Other high sellers from Hardigreen Park were the top of the unled section, the $30,000 Rally (P) (23-months) going to Peter and Shari Knudsen, Coondarra, Chinchilla. Vindicating his $34,000 price tag, Torrent’s seven sons set a $16,857 average.
Never far from the headlines is Sylvia Kirkby’s, Warenda Stud, Narrabri, NSW. That nursery enjoyed another strong result when eight ‘S’ bulls averaged $11,813. Warenda Jaguar (P) (29-months) (1002kg) sold for $20,000 to Clark and Tait, Mantuan Downs, Springsure. Clark and Tait signed off on five to average $10,000 for three holdings, Mantuan Downs, Boongoondoo, Jericho and Mt Enniskillen, Blackall.
Munnabah Stud, operated by Tom and Anna Dunlop, Coolah, NSW took home a $11,072 average for their seven ‘S’ entries including the $22,000 Iron Man (PS) (24-months) and the $20,000 poll, Munnabah 936 selling to the Glenn Oaks Stud, Nobby and Doorabeeba Stud, Wee Waa, NSW operated by Murray Smith and Susan Michell respectively.
Taroom based, Dangarfield Stud operated by Robert and Ben Adams, Dangarfield Stud, Taroom picked two for a $14,000 average including the $20,000 Goolagong Jacko (PS) (32-months). On the outlook for new sire material were Scott and Rebecca Dunlop, Dunlop Stud, Proston, taking home two for a $10,000 average topping at $13,000 for the 25-month-old, Restdown JR 245 (P) (Yarrawonga Oberg) offered by Jacob Ryan, Mathoura, NSW.
John and Rosemaree McCarthy, Rosehill Stud, Clifton set a $17,250 result for their four ‘S’ entrants. Top of their team was the $45,000, 1062kg, Rosehill Jameson (PS) (AI) (ET) selling to Craig Hindle’s, Bullamakinka Stud, Toobeah. Andrew and Fiona Bassingthwaighte, Yarrawonga Stud, Wallumbilla selected a pair for an average $19,500 topping at $21,000 for Wave Hill J95 (P) (21-months) (Glenn Oaks Fleetwood) while David and Suzanne Bassinghtwaighte, Waco Stud, Mungalla picked up two for a $16,000 medium.
The fixture continues to be supported by leading commercial enterprises like Roger Purtell, Mygan, Mungindi, NSW. Roger remains a loyal supporter, returning for nine for a $3945 average while Murray and Loretta Smith, Kyber, Augathella took four for a $6875 average. Peter Hall, Oorindi, Cloncurry claimed two for a $14,000 average while the Perrett Cattle Company, Tunis, Injune took five topping at $6500 to average $5200. The Dack Cattle Company, Eurombah East, Taroom signed off on two for $7500 medium. Ken and Kerry McKenzie, Yaralla, Blackwater picked up a pair from Hardigreen Park for a $14,500 average topping at $16,000 for Raytek Noddy (P) son aged 24-months.
Top of the heifers was the $7000, Glenn Oaks K25 (22-months) (Dunlop Kaiser (PS)) going to the Hardigreen Park prefix. Hardigreen Park selected four Wave Hill heifers for on average $5000. Tony and Louise Prentice, Jamar Stud, Emerald took the remaining trio of Wave Hill heifers all for $6000 price tags. The entire draft of Wave Hill heifers were daughters of Glenn Oaks Fleetwood (PS). Buyers had access to the first of the progeny of the $12,000 Fleetwood whom recently sold privately to the Hardigreen Park Stud. As a debut sire, Fleetwood’s six daughters set a $5167 average while his first crop of five sons set a $20,600 average including the equal top seller for owner, Phillip Kirkby.
Ian Heckandorf, Auburn Framing, Trangie, NSW secured the $13,000, Warenda Jetstar (P) (29-months) by the ever consistent Warenda Denver (P).
The poll, Glenn Oaks Jeremy (24-months) (780kg) (Yarrawonga Archer/Yarrawonga Oberg) made $10,000 selling to the Strathmore Stud, Blackall. The Longreach Pastoral College, Longreach took home two for a $7500 average while Peter and Sharon Seawright, Comet Downs, Injune claimed a pair to average $11,250 topping at $13,000 for a Dangarfield Torrent son from Hardigreen Park.

The 37-month-old, 884kg, 5 Star Dirty Deeds (above) made $11,500 at the annual 5 Star Senepol Sale, CQLX, Gracemere selling to the Goddard family, Eucumbene Grazing Company, Eucumbene, Bollon.
With the Senior champion from Beef 2015 are Rick Green, Goovigen along with Guthrie Maynard and Rene Schipper, 5 Star Stud, Jambin.
Strong return clientele saw Senepol bulls topped $12,500 while Senepol/Belmont hybrids sold to $9500, Senegus hit $9500 and Senelais made to $11,000 at the 5 Star Senepol Sale, CQLX, September 2015 at Gracemere.
Vendors, Geoff and Alison Maynard saw their cattle sell to all parts of the state ending in a complete clearance on the way to setting a bottom line average of $6845.
In a breakup of the offering 38 Senepol bulls averaged $7724, while 10 Senepol hybrids averaged $6650 and 14 Senegus saw a $4893 medium while nine Senelais provided their owners with a $6389 average.
Top selling bull was the $12,500 21-month-old, 748kg, WSJ 14006 (Quirran-Lea Fagan) offered by Wayne and Jackie Spoor, Aurora Stud Jambin selling to Derrick Baker, Tally Ho, Springsure. Aurora picked up a 22-month-old, $7500 son of 5 Star 070820 (AI).
Next best was the 37-month-old, 884kg, 5 Star Dirty Deeds selling for $11,500 to Lyndon and Dereck Goddard, Eucumbene, Bollon. Dirty Deeds was the Senior champion from Beef 2015 and delivered scans of 6/5mm, 143 EMA and 5.0IMF. Eucumbene signed off on five to average $8700.
Shane Stafford, Stafford Stock and Property, Richmond acting for regular supporters, Alistair and Jo McClymont, Burleigh Station, Richmond, selected four to average $10,000 topping at $11,000 for a 22-month-old by 5 Star 050462 (ET). Shane Watts, Sonoma Station, Collinsville picked up 11 throughout for on average $6909 topping at $8000 on three occasions.
Edward and Anna Bassett, Jenavale, Roma took with them a pair of Senelais to average $6500 while also lending support was Ken Braithwaite, Winchester Downs, Moranbah taking a trio for a $5833 average to top at $8000.
Regulars, Allan Stevenson and family, Spring Creek, Springsure returned selecting five to average them $7000. Top of their selections was a 32-month, 868kg Senelais (Granville Asher) for $11,000. Colin Dunn, Sorrell Hills, Duaringa took six to average $5750 to top at $6000 on three occasions. The Schmidt family, Nardoo, Emerald selected five Senelais for $5500 three times to average $5100. The Byrne family, Holroyd Station, Coen took four for on average $4500 with Neil Rockemer, Booubyjan ended with three for a $6833 medium. Grant sand Carly Burnham, Bonnie Doone, Monto selected a pair for a $6500 average from the Senepol and Senepol hybrid section of the offering. The Suttle family, Theodore selected three for a $5667 average topping at $6500. John and Jan Burnett, Bendemeer, Clermont outlaid $9500 for the top selling Senepol/Belmont entry aged 22-month which was a three quarter Senepol, one eight Belmont Red and one eight Bonsmara configured individual. David and Lyn Anderson, Tindara, Banana chose a $9500 21-month-old Senepol by 5 Star Longfellow.

Red sires topped $40,000 while joined females hit $32,500 and maiden heifers made to $24,000 and breeder units sold to a high of $20,000 to a three state buying panel at the NCC ‘Red Legacy’ Brahman Sale in September.

In a catalogue breakdown, vendor, Brett Nobbs and family, NCC Stud, Duaringa saw their cow and calf units average $7146, joined heifers average $7442 and their unjoined heifers average $6882. This resulted in a bottom line result was 112 females selling for a $7125 medium. Four stud sires averaged $16,750 while the two semen packages on offer averaged $2500 culminating in a $870,000 gross and a 96 percent clearance at auction.

Top selling female was the $32,500 NCC Dienka 2696 (IVF) (32-months) selling to Stephen Sivewright, Diddine Stud, South Lismore, NSW. The daughter of JDH Mr Elmo Manso (US) and NCC Dienka 236 (SA) carried a positive test to the RAS champion, NCC Santoro (IVF). Diddine ended with 10 females to average $13,050 and a semen package (NCC Rumpole (ET)) for $3500. Other Diddine purchases included an $18,000 daughter of NCC Serengeti (eight-years) and a $16,000, four-year-old matron by NCC Springbok (SA). Dominating the catalogue were 23 daughters of the International Grand Champion, Elmo, that averaged $8478 while five daughters of the African donor import, Dienka 238 averaged $15,500.

Sale topper and top selling sire was the $40,000 RAS Feature Show champion, NCC Santoro (IVF) (Elmo). At four-years of age Santoro was purchased by Brenten, Hamilton, Caitlyn and Emily Donaldson, Medway, Bogantungan.  A partnership between Adam Gunthorpe, Tarramba Stud, Banana and Brian and Cindy Hughes, Lanes Creek Stud, Georgetown netted the $12,000 sire, NCC Shogun (IVF). Kelvin Jochheim, Hill Rise Stud, Proserpine outlaid $10,000 for the three-year-old joining sire, Ooline Legacy (NCC Springbok (SA)). Taking the remaining sire, the rising four-year-old, Lanes Creek Slingshot (ET) (NCC Springbok) at $5000 were Roland and Sally Everingham, Oak Park, Einasleigh.

Top selling breeder unit at $20,000 was NCC Dienka 2102 (IVF) (Elmo Manso). The four-year-old sold with a bull calf by NCC Shogun to Mark and Belinda Wilson, Banana Station Stud, Banana who bought 12 to average $6292.

At $24,000 the top selling unjoined heifer was NCC Mosadi 2925 (P) (23-months) (Lanes Creek E0234 (P)) selling to the Ooline Stud, Goovigen. Darren and Sue Kent, Ooline Stud purchased nine for an average $10,556 and included the $22,000 a close relative to their top selling maiden, in the form of NCC Mosadi 2923 (P) (20-months).

Ken and Wendy Cole’s, Kenrol Stud, Gracemere took four for a $5375 average including an $8500 rising three-year-old by NCC Casablanca (IVF). Kerry Gowland SCC Brahmans, Theebine accounted for six to average $10,500 with their top purchase being the $15,000 NCC Worth 2760 (29-months) (NCC Casablanca) while Steven and Sharon Turner, Y3K Stud, Woolooga claimed two at a $11,750 average including a $17,000 20-month-old daughter of NCC Rumpole (ET). Bill and Vicky Braun, Bundella Stud, Blackville, NSW took three for an average value $7833 topping at $12,000 NCC Robin 1930 (NCC Sedgeford). Glenmorgan breeder, Lex Mesner, Teelba Station secured two to average $10,000 topping at $11,000 for a Tartrus Redmount daughter. Repeat buyers, Dave and Pearl Christensen, Berida Red Stud, Bendemeer, NSW sourced four to average $4125 while

Bill and Kay Geddes, Doonside Stud, Barmoya also claimed four for a $5875 medium. Top of the Doonside purchases at $10,000 was a 25-month-old polled Redmount daughter. Michael Ingram, Gogango selected seven which averaged $6215, topping at $10,000 for a four-year-old NCC Springbok daughter.

Bill and Lawson Camm, Cambil Stud, Proserpine took the $10,000 Elmo daughter, NCC Cindy 2194 (IVF) with a heifer calf by NCC Shogun while Gavin Scott, Rosetta, Collinsville selected seven to average him $5286. Brooweena based, Gigoomgan Pastoral picked up three for a $7500 average topping at $11,000 for a five-year-old Elmo daughter with a heifer calf.

Burdekin Stud, Charters Towers operated by the Brownson family signed off on a trio for a $7667 average topping at $11,000 for a 18-month-old NCC Casablanca (Elmo) daughter.

Kimberley Pickersgill, Geneva Stud, Theodore purchased three for a $4167. Lanes Creek Stud took with them a single female, the $9000 NCC Cindy 2817 (IVF) (25-months) (Tartrus Redmount). At the same money Margaretta Fahey, Bizzy M Stud, Copmanhurst, NSW took the four-year-old, NCC Sensation (P) (IVF) (Elmo) with a Santoro heifer calf.

Selecting a pair to average $7000 and topping at $10,000 for a NCC Zulu (ET) aged 18months were the Brummell family, Big River Stud, Rannes. Gary and Katrina Lynch, Gracemere Stud, Gracemere parted with $8000 to secure a rising three-year-old PTIC daughter of NCC Shogun (ET).

Increased sale averages, two international buyers, another million dollar plus result coupled with a complete clearance were some of the standouts at the 2105 annual Glenlands Sale. Buyers from three states, the Northern Territory and overseas interests plus new and established clientele representing leading commercial and seedstock operations battled for a stake in the offering. For vendors, the Childs family it was another huge endorsement of their genetic and preparation policies. In all 167 bulls sold to $42,500 to average $7623 for a bottom line gross of $1.273m. The bottom line result is a $602/head increase on the previous sale result plus an extra 13 bulls were sold when compared to the same period. Balancing the result was affordability with forty six percent of the sale sold for figures of $5000 or less.

Top seller was the $42,500, Glenlands Tradition (D) (21-months) (858kg) (144EMA) selling to Chippy Watson, KwaZulu, Natal, South Africa and the Donaldson family, Medway Stud as partners. Chippy also took Timekeeper for $22,000 for export purposes while the Medway operation claimed the top selling herd bull at $15,000. Steven Swan, Inala, Moura took the sale opener Storm Front (1034kg) for $28,000 while Dean and Julie Allen, Western Red and Fairhaven Studs, Longreach selected three for a $19,834 average topping at $27,500 for the 26-month, 904kg, 136EMA, D Trilogy (P) (AI) (ET). Alan Matson, Ebony Hills Stud, Allora claimed the $28,000 Tape Deck (P) (22-months) (744kg). Fred and Juleen Johnson, Chipahill Stud, Biloela outlaid $26,000 for the 23-month, 840kg, Tancred (P) while two flush brothers averaged $17,500 topping at $22,000 for the 26-month-old, D Trademark (P) selling to the Pelling family’s, Fernleigh stud, Theodore and the $13,000 D Thornton (P) selling to the Farquhar family, Calco Stud, Rolleston. Fred Noffke, Keronga, Rolleston selected three for a $13,334 average including the $22,000 Typhoon (P) 24-months). Gray O’Neill, Nyanda, Rolleston outlaid $20,000 for the 17-month, Touchdown (P).

Ken, Shelley and Ben Mutton, Fieldhouse Stud, Wickepin, WA returned taking the $19,000 Two Up (P) (24-months) while Jim Conroy, General Manager, Semex Australia and New Zealand secured the global rights of the $18,000 D Sandlewood (P) (27-months) (860kg). Roma based, Warrego Stud operated by the O’Kane family secured the $16,000 Glenlands Paterson son, Telford (P) (23-months) while the Clonlara stud, Glenmorgan secured the $14,000 D Thunderbolt (P) (20-months).

Leading commercial producers from two states threw their support behind the offering. John and Ellen Cotter, Kinbombi Station, Goomeri took five for on average $6800 toping at $8500. E Carr and Son, Myravale, Glastonbury picked up five to average $6300 topping at $7000. Bash and Robin Carmichael, Newcombe, Augathella retuned taking four to average $6125 while Peter Carmichael, Lochinvar, Augathella ended with three for on average $9500 topping at $17,000 for the 25-month-old, Tanner (S). Charlie and Jackie Hawkins, Malakoff Downs, Hughenden signed off on 13 to average $4885. Bonney Downs Station, Nullagine, WA picked up 13 to average $4250. Hammersley Iron, WA took six to average them $4667 while the Department of Primary Industries and Fisheries, Alice Springs, NT claimed a trio to average $8500 topping at $12,000. Jim Gorman, Seamark Pty Ltd, Cliffdale, Theodore signed off on 25 for two destinations, Cliffdale and Vermont Park, Nebo for on average $4771. Regulars, the Lawrie Family, Sebastopal, Westwood purchased five averaged $4900 while heavy investors, Dan and Helen Sullivan, Talagai, Capella returned talking four to average $5250. Rob and Ann Donahue, Barradoo, Bauhinia selected six to average $4917. The Phillips family, Mt Playfair, Tambo signed off on four to average $4125.
